Spring is finally upon us, those first scents of fresh, crisp air welcoming us as the midday sun. Warmth beacons at our windows, doors and kisses our skin after a long bitter winter. It’s in every way refreshing, so here are a few ways to welcome spring into your home as well!
Open the Windows!
First and foremost, the second that frost is gone and that warm air starts making it’s way your direction, pop those puppies open! This is one of the most refreshing things in the world. By letting that fresh air into your house is like a breath of life into your home.
Months of dust and clutter and not wanting to do much piling up? Open the windows, prop the door and start getting that junk out! I am notorious for letting boxes stack up (things to donate, take to storage, etc.) Since space is now open, you can pull out the couches (I literally put them out the porch… my family hates it), get the rugs outside and beat out that dust. Get that stale winter out, and that fresh spring in!
Pick Yourself Some Flowers!
Ahhh lilacs, my absolute favorites and with such short lives *cries*. They are my favorite flowers to go clip a few twigs and put in vases all over the house! They smell wonderful, come in a variety of colors and you don’t have to collect a thousand and three to make the vases look full and voluptuous! While they’re not til later spring here, there are plenty of wild flowers around April to brighten up the winter drab. (Not a flower picker? Go buy yourself some flowers, you totally deserve it! Hello tulips!)
Make it Smell of Spring.
The windows are open, the couch is on the deck, the kids are playing in the mud puddle – life is swell! However, the cold isn’t necessarily over. The nights tend to get a bit cool, and I don’t particularly care for the frost nipping at my heels so the wood stove is still ready to go – simmer pot scents are here to remind you, even in the cold night, spring is springing! (essential oils and candles also work!)
So technically this isn’t “in your home” but it’s good to get outside no matter the season, and while autumn is my favorite, spring is also great. It’s not super hot, it’s not too cold (it’s April 21st…) it’s perfect to clean up the yard, take a hike, have a picnic, go for a bike ride or just sit outside with coffee and a book!
